In the spirit of Oliver’s original collection, we invite you to send a patch of your choosing to the Oliver Patch Project with a letter about the patch’s origin, or words of encouragement which will be forwarded on to an OPP Warrior in need.

It started with a single patch….
In May 2020, nine-year-old Oliver Burkhardt was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. In the immediate aftermath of Oliver’s diagnosis, family and friends reached out to his parents asking how they could help show Oliver love and support. The Burkhardt’s came up with a simple idea to help Oliver keep a positive attitude. They asked people to “send a patch” in the mail. Each patch Oliver received was sewn onto the jean jacket he wore to and from hospital visits as a reminder of all the people who were rooting for him.
Oliver’s jacket became his suit of armor. It made him feel strong and loved while fighting his battle, and he wore it like a warrior with pride. Oliver’s parents saw the positive impact these little gifts of love had on Oliver, and at his encouragement decided to pay it forward to other kids on a cancer journey through the Oliver Patch Project.
When Sending a Patch and Letter:
What kind of Patch should I send?
Send something meaningful to you! Do you have a patch that meant something to you and now you’re ready to share? Send a patch from your past and write a note about how much it meant to you.
Send a new patch you think will make a child smile! It’s all about sharing love and smiles.
What should I say in my letter?
Tell the story about the patch you’re sending. Include words of encouragement, positivity, and care - think of what would lift a child’s spirits!
Will I know who gets my patch?
Unfortunately, no. For privacy, we’re not allowed to share any personal information. Please know that your patch will go to an Oliver Patch Project child who is in treatment for cancer in the United States.
