Warrior to Warrior Program

A warrior is defined as a person who shows or has shown great vigor and courage. A warrior has a mission and is dedicated and driven like few others to succeed at that mission. Every warrior has a story to tell and understands what it means to have a “never quit” attitude.

The Oliver Patch Project’s Warrior to Warrior program encourages servicemen and women to help empower children battling cancer and other illnesses by sharing their personal warrior stories and a patch.

You have an amazing story to tell and understand what it means to have that “never quit” attitude.

We are honored to include each one of you in Oliver Patch Project’s mission and invite you to send a letter and patch of support, hope and empowerment to a child warrior today!

How did the Oliver Patch Project Warrior to Warrior program begin?

It Started with a Single Patch….

In May 2020, nine-year-old Oliver Burkhardt was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia.

In the immediate aftermath of Oliver’s diagnosis, family and friends reached out to his parents asking how they could help show Oliver love and support. The Burkhardt’s came up with a simple idea to help Oliver keep a positive attitude. They asked people to “send a patch” in the mail.

Each patch Oliver received was sewn onto the jean jacket he wore to and from hospital visits as a reminder of all the people who were rooting for him. Oliver’s jacket became his suit of armor. It made him feel strong and loved while fighting his battle, and he wore it like a warrior with pride.

The outpouring of love and support received from members of all branches of the U.S. military, law enforcement officials, first responders, and civilian and non-civilian service workers was incredibly impactful.

Receiving patches from “real life” warriors gave Oliver the strength and the drive to keep going.

Our Warrior to Warrior Program was created to allow other children battling cancer and other illnesses to feel the same.

We are honored to include each one of you in Oliver Patch Project’s mission and invite you to send a letter and a patch of support, hope, and empowerment to a child warrior today!

“Patches are so much more than pieces of material. Patches reinforce hope, mend loneliness, and repair self doubt. Patches represent support, compassion, and strength.

Your patches represent all of these things from one Warrior to another.”

— Brian and Trisha, Oliver’s parents

When Sending a Patch…

What kind of Patch should I send?

We encourage you to send something meaningful to you. Whether it be one of your own patches or a brand new one.

Do I have to send a letter?

Though it is not required, sharing your story, challenges, victories, and words of encouragement will make a long-lasting impact on our warriors. We’ve found that even the smallest message on a post-it note makes all the difference.

What should I say in my letter?

Share your Story!

Tell a child how much you care and about the patch you’re sending and what it means to you. Remember nothing is too insignificant when it comes to providing a little love and support to these Warriors.

Will I know who gets my patch?

HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) requires that we do not share personal information about the child who receives your patch. You are welcome to include a return address in your letter, but please send a patch without any expectation of hearing back, but know that a child out there is receiving your love and support.
